History

Robert Attey was born in 1839 and was raised by his father, John, Librarian to the Earl of Durham, at Lambton Castle, County Durham, England. After serving his apprenticeship with the nineteenth-century newspaper The Sunderland Herald, he established his own commercial printing company in 1885 with sons George and Ralph.

George Attey, pictured here, became President of the Sunderland & District Master Printers Association in 1906, and the company went from strength to strength. It's registered name is still Robert Attey & Sons Ltd, though we now trade as attey-group.com, reflecting the size of the company, the many services now offered in addition to commercial print, and our ability to integrate data management and communications into a total package that includes Internet solutions.

With a multi million GBP turnover and strong business partnerships with the North of England's leading Universities, the company is now run by Robert's Great Great Grandson, Chris Attey, who is Chief Executive and Managing Director.

and to it we have added a full range of other services. Several years ago we began to offer Data Services through an on-going partnership with the University of Newcastle. This started and continues in the field of Data Entry and Data Capture.

Following the success of this operation, further partnerships have been established with other major Universities, to strengthen, for example, our provision of data management. As these partnerships have developed we have further diversified and become a multi-functional, total communications and data management company, including and embracing Internet Solutions. We are also a member of Cimtech, the Centre for Information Management and Technology - University of Hertfordshire.

As well as our own expertise and equipment, we are able to draw on the outstanding facilities and in-depth, highly specialist knowledge of our University partners, and we have put this into a commercially driven and highly professional business operation. This allows for a rapid response to customer needs and provides, in many cases, a one stop shop giving true value for money. We have developed into a highly reputable supply source seeking to add value to your business and build long term, mutually beneficial relationships with our customers.

Current major contracts include, for example, a combined printing and data-entry project with the University of Durham worth several million GBP. This splits approximately 40% print to 60% data entry by value.
